The Village of Algonquin is excited to begin reconstructing several parks throughout the community. These projects are part of the Village’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which identified improvements to address over the course of several years.
The planning process began in the winter of 2019 with an inventory and analysis of the Village’s parks and open spaces, indoor facilities, programs, and community context. Village staff, board members and the community shared their opinions about the Village’s parks, facilities, programs and needs during the plan development. The planning team worked with Village staff to develop strategies to meet community needs, which were prioritized and then organized into a ten-year action plan. Input from residents and community stakeholder groups helped further refine the action plan prioritization. Towne Park and Presidential Park are two projects identified as a high priority, and their reconstruction supports the action plan's overall goals. Additionally, playground replacement at Holder Park and James B. Wood Park will also occur in 2024. These initiatives represent the Village’s commitment to providing the best possible park and recreation services to community members. Work on these park projects are currently underway and are expected to be substantially completed by the end of 2024. All parks under construction will be closed for use/rental until completion.
